Desk Report,
Mustafiz, Rishad and others in the Big Bash draft
Eleven Bangladeshi cricketers have registered their names in the draft for the next edition of Australia’s T20 league, Big Bash. Cricket Australia today announced the names of 440 male cricketers and 145 female cricketers in the draft. The eight-team draft will be held next Thursday.
The Bangladeshi cricketers in the draft include Mustafizur Rahman and Rishad Hossain, who got a team from last year’s Big Bash draft. The remaining cricketers are Mehedi Hasan, Mehedi Hasan Miraj, Tanjim Hasan, Tanjid Hasan, Shamim Hossain, Taijul Islam, Hasan Mahmud, Soumya Sarkar, and Towhid Hridoy. Rishad did not play in the Big Bash despite getting a team in the draft last year as he was busy with the BPL.

The most talked about name in this year’s draft is probably former England pacer James Anderson. He retired from international cricket last summer. However, he is still in great form. After 11 years, he returned to the T20 Blast and is playing brilliantly for Lancashire. The 41-year-old pacer, who has been overlooked in the IPL and SA Twenty20, is looking for a team in the Big Bash.

Former India pacer Siddharth Kaul is also in the draft. He was a member of the 2008 Under-19 World Cup-winning team. He has played 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is for India. He has played in the IPL for a long time—for Kolkata, Delhi Daredevils, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bangalore. Kaul, who retired from Indian domestic cricket in 2024, is the only Indian representative in the draft.
This year’s draft has a strong presence of Pakistani stars. Babar Azam has already been included in the team by the Sydney Sixers. This time, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Shadab Khan, Haris Rauf and Mohammad Rizwan have also registered their names in the draft.
